GRUVO provides a standardised, nationwide representation of groundwater levels in Germany. It displays the current status, calculates monthly updated short-term forecasts up to three months in advance, and supplements them with medium-term forecasts for ten years as well as long-term projections up to 2100. The basis is an AI-approach that links representative measuring points of the state authorities with weather and climate data from the German Meteorological Service. The three preview images visualise the current groundwater levels as well as the one- and three-months forecasts. Clicking on them takes you directly to the interactive map application with in-depth details such as groundwater level time series and information on model quality.

The information obtained provides decision-makers and water sector experts with important insights into long-term trends and changes in groundwater availability. This enables them to respond to issues such as droughts at an early stage, allowing them to develop adapted strategies for drinking water supply and agricultural irrigation. At the same time, transparent data provision creates a common knowledge base for researchers, administrators and the public. This encourages discussion about sustainable water management and helps to prepare for the consequences of climate change.
