Download of predictions
On this page, groundwater level forecasts for Germany can be downloaded. The data are available both nationwide and for
individual federal states and cover different forecast horizons:
- Short-term forecasts (for the next 3 months)
- Decadal predictions (for the next 10 years)
- Long-term projections (up to the year 2100)
Usage note: The decadal predictions and long-term projections are model-based predictions and are not suitable for interpreting groundwater levels at the scale of individual weeks. They should only be used to assess long-term developments (e.g. multi-year averages or long-term trends). Please also refer to the general usage notes. The provided data are made available under the licence DL-DE BY 2.0. Please use the following reference when citing the dataset: BGR (2026): GRUVO - Seasonal Forecast April 2026.
Download of monitoring data
Measured groundwater levels are not provided here, as BGR is not the owner of the monitoring wells.
Responsibility for measurements and data provision lies with the respective federal state
authorities. We recommend accessing groundwater level data via the
federal state data portals.
A comprehensive dataset containing groundwater levels from over 3,000 monitoring sites between 1991 and 2022 is available for analyses covering Germany as a whole:
